“The Great Silence” is a phrase used in physics to describe the lack of observable evidence for extraterrestrial life in the universe. It’s closely related to the Fermi paradox, which is attributed to physicist Enrico Fermi. With billions of stars in the Milky Way alone, and given the high probability of habitable zones, the universe should be teeming with life. But Fermi famously asked, “Where is everybody?”
